I believe that participating in a psychotherapy group can provide among the most meaningful and beneficial experiences for those interested in pursuing psychotherapy.
My groups are psychodynamic in nature and have a relational emphasis. That is, I think of our thoughts, feelings and behaviors as governed by conscious and, importantly, unconscious processes. The work of psychotherapy, both individual and group, consists in examining our transferences (our tendency to transfer our feelings about past experiences and people onto experiences and people in the present) and resistances (our tendency to resist certain feelings and thoughts from coming into conscious awareness).
The relational emphasis consists in thoroughly considering the mutual contributions of group leader and members alike to the psychotherapeutic work of the group. For any work to get done in the group and in order for growth to happen, both leader and members have to be willing to consider their transferences and resistances.
I currently offer the following groups:
Relational psychotherapy group (Thursdays)
Thursday 4:30pm–6:00pm
A group for adults looking to work on relationships with partner, family and coworkers, increased emotional awareness, and more authentic expression of their thoughts and feelings.
Relational psychotherapy group (Tuesdays)
Tuesday 12:00pm–1:30pm
A group for adults looking to work on relationships with partner, family and coworkers, increased emotional awareness, and more authentic expression of their thoughts and feelings.
Young adult relational psychotherapy group (Virtual)
Tuesday 4:00pm–5:30pm
A group for young adults (early 20s to early 30s) looking to work on matters such as relationships with family and peers, difficulties related to school or job and leaving home. This group is online only and open to residents of New York State. Broadly similar to my other groups, this young adult group has a specific emphasis on concerns of young adults and aims to address such concerns in a group of peers.
